Adoption Timeline

  • February 14, 2011 - Submitted application for international adoption to AGCI
  • February 17, 2011 - Made the decision to pursue Bulgaria
  • March 3, 2011 - Orientation call
  • March 7, 2011 - Paperwork and contracts submitted to AGCI
  • March 8, 2011 - Decided to use Children's Connections as our home study agency
  • March 17, 2011 - First call with our caseworker SooJin
  • March 18, 2011 - Fingerprints submitted to FBI for background check/Paperwork collection begins
  • March 29, 2011 - Medical appointments
  • April 6, 2011 - All home study paperwork submitted
  • April 12, 2011 - First home visit for homestudy
  • April 13, 2011 - Adoption training finished
  • April 14, 2011 - Second home visit for homestudy
  • April 18, 2011 - Patrick's FBI clearance comes back; mine has to be redone (prints could not be read)
  • April 20, 2011 - Courtney sends off her fingerprints (again). Come on FBI!
  • April 26, 2011 - Home Study submitted for review
  • June 1, 2011  - Courtney's FBI clearance is on its way!
  • June 4, 2011 - Received Courtney's FBI clearance (Hallelujah!)
  • June 14, 2011 - Overnighted I-800A to NBC
  • July 12, 2011 - USCIS fingerprinting appointment
  • August 11, 2011 - NBC (USCIS) fingerprint approval
  • August 18, 2011 - All documentsi apostilled . . . Dossier is finished!
  • August 26, 2011 - Dossier on its way to Bulgaria! :)
  • Early to Mid September - registered with the Ministry of Justice
  • February 14, 2012 - One year since applying to AGCI
  • April 9, 2012 - Began Homestudy update
  • June 5, 2012 - Received Homestudy update approval/Time to start NBC updates
  • July 23, 2012 - Sent off updated I800-A (supplement 3)
  • August 17, 2012 - Biometrics update with NBC
  • September 6, 2012 - Received NBC Biometrics Approval
  • September 11, 2012 - Got Home study update and biometrics apostilled and sent to our agency
  • Mid September - Registered one year with the MOJ in Bulgaria!
  • February 14, 2013 - Two years since applying to AGCI
  • April/May 2013 - Began home study update number two
  • April 18, 2013 - ink fingerprints sent to the FBI
  • May 31, 2013 - received Patrick's fingerprint approval
  • June 3, 2013 - Surprise, surprise (notice the sarcasm) my fingerprints were too low quality to be used
  • June 3, 2013 - Spoke to Soojin. She said we're moving up the list. See there is some good news. :)
  • June 5, 2013 - Redid my fingerprints with livescan in Austin
  • June 13, 2013 - Home study approved (will have to update again in a few weeks due to moving)
  • July 22, 2013 - Finally received my FBI Approval
  • July 27, 2013 - Second home study update and social worker visit of the year
  • Mid September - 2 years and counting
  • September 30, 2013 - 3rd Biometrics appointment with USCIS
  • October 13, 2013 - NBC Approval received and sent off to our agency (and eventually to Bulgaria)
  • June 1, 2014 - Started another home study update. Caseworker quit a few weeks later, and so we had to resubmit a lot of paperwork.
  • June 10, 2014 - Appointments for updated medicals (take 2)
  • July 3, 2014 - THE CALL!!! 
  • July 8, 2014 - Officially accepted a referral for a beautiful little girl! 
  • July 9, 2014 - Received travel dates for August 9-16! 
  • July 17, 2014 - Overnighted I800 to USCIS (was received the next day) 
  • July 19, 2014 - Last social worker home visit for our home study update
  • July 23, 2014 - Last (hopefully) fingerprinting for the FBI for upcoming court date
  • August 9-16, 2014 - Trip One to meet our daughter
  • September 12, 2014 - Lost the referral due to bio parent wanting custody 
  • October 2014 - Waiting once again
  • October/November 2014 - Updated USCIS (expires Feb. 1, 2016) 
  • January 13, 2015 - Decided to send off extra fingerprints to FBI because current processing time is 3-4 months. Hopefully, by then we'll have another referral and need them. 
  • April 2015 - Got back FBI clearances; still no referral ... hopefully soon!
  • June 5, 2015 - Started gathering documents for our 4th home study update (5th overall)
  • June 22, 2015 - Home study visit
  • July 13, 2015 - Home study #5 complete (hoping and praying it's the last time we do this particular home study)
  • July 24, 2015 - The call (take 2)!!!
  • August 17, 2015 - After waiting 3 long weeks, we were finally able to get pics/videos and officially accept the referral.
  • August 24, 2015 - Sent off I800
  • August 29 - Sept. 5, 2015 - Trip 1
  • Sept. 16, 2015 - FBI fingerprints with field print (had results in an hour!) and I800 approval (woohoo!)
  • Sept. 18, 2015 - Sent off FBI checks to be apostilled
  • Sept. 30, 2015 - Article 5 - File sent to the MOJ
  • October 21, 2015 - Signature and Court date (had to get extra paperwork for court)
  • November 10, 2015 - COURT!!! Anna Gayle Davis is officially ours!
  • December 3, 2015 - Gotcha Date!
  • December 12, 2015 - Arrived home!
