Crazy Busy Weekend

Our weekend turned out to be much busier and much more fun than we originally anticipated.

It started early Friday morning with a fresh hair cut for Andrew.

Then Andrew and I headed to my parents' to pick up tickets to a bull riding Saturday night. By way of explanation to the whole bull riding thing, my dad used to ride bulls and rodeo in college. You have to be a little bit crazy to ride bulls, and well, my dad is a little bit crazy. ;) After he and my mom got married, he just roped, and now he only team ropes (my brother-in-law and sometimes, my brother team rope too). Since he's obviously way past his bull-riding days, my dad chooses to stay involved in the action in other ways. He and my mother, along with Mike (a retired PBR championship bull rider) and Hannah White, own three bucking bulls. This probably means nothing to most of you and maybe even seems a bit strange . . .  unless you're a fan of bull riding or rodeoing in general. And I somehow doubt that most of my readers are. It's okay. We're really normal people . . . I promise.

Anyway, Mike and Hannah were at my parents' for the weekend, and our quick stop by the house turned into an all day event. We watched the guys and Hannah rope, ate barbecue, played with the White's baby (who happens to be one of the cutest and happiest babies I've ever seen), cooled off in the river (no water on Andrew's face), and then grilled fajitas Friday night. We didn't get home until 10:00 Friday night. It was one of those unplanned and unexpected days that turns out to be so much fun. (And I got my car back, which just made me that much happier.)

Yesterday, Andrew got his stitch out, and we hung around the house before heading to Gonzales to the bull riding. The rider on my parents' and the White's bull didn't do any good, which isn't great for the bull's score, but we all had fun anyway.

My little cowboy. Who has started insisting he's gonna ride bulls. I try to act disinterested so as not to encourage him (reverse psychology), but given that he's so much like my dad, I should probably be slightly concerned. I'm gonna try to steer him more toward the roping and riding and away from the riding bulls.

This morning we went to church, and Andrew and I have spent the afternoon laying around. I finally finished the Circle Series by Ted Dekker. I think it took so long because it is actually four books in one. It was great, and the symbolism was amazing. It tells the story of evil and redemption so well, but it was long, and at times tedious for me. Still, I highly recommend the whole series.

So that was our weekend. We've got another busy week ahead, and our vacation is soon. Although, I'm not supposed to tell you when. I think "soon" is still pretty vague. Hopefully, Patrick won't decide to suddenly start reading my blog. ;)
