Strange Conversations with My Child

Some of you may have read this one on twitter/facebook, but being his mother, I think it bears repeating:
Andrew: Mama, you ever ride a bull?
Me: Absolutely not!
Andrew: Well, then you're not a real cowgirl.
I find it funny that he even for 10 seconds thought I was a cowgirl. I fell off my horse (pony) when I was four. I've never been a big fan of riding. I'll rub the horses' noses, but I don't remember the last time I rode. Epic fail in the cowgirl department.

This next conversation took place while he watching a show with whales on it:
Andrew: What do whale's eat?
Me (only half listening): Fish I guess.
Andrew (annoyed): No Mom, they're gentle giants. They eat plankton.
Why does he ask? And where did the term "gentle giants" come from?

Last night I fried okra from my parents' garden, but Andrew doesn't like fried okra so I grabbed a squash and sautéed it in butter for him. Normally, I sautée our veggies in a little olive oil, but since it was for Andrew I figured the butter wouldn't hurt:
Andrew: Something is wrong with this squash.
Me: It's just squash. You eat squash all the time.
Andrew: No it's different. You cooked it in butter. I don't like my squash cooked in butter.
How did he know? Little food snob.

Patrick and Andrew had cinnamon toast for breakfast, and Patrick put A LOT of cinnamon and sugar on his:
Me: Wow, Dad put a lot of sugar on his!
Andrew (deadpan without looking up): Yep, he sure did. Probably gonna die from all that sugar.
That's my child . . .

it is great that you've recorded these. for yourself and for andrew. I know you do, but i'd like to remind you to enjoy and treasure the time you have with just him, before you get your little girl. Not that the new addition won't be a wonderful blessing and change you all in great ways, but just that this time is special too. The bible is (of course) so right when it says children are a blessing from the Lord. Praise the Lord you have the privilege of raising, loving, teaching and learning from your little one...soon to be two!
