How this . . .
Led to this . . .
And eventually this . . .
Yesterday, Andrew wanted to make a path of books that snaked down the hall and through the living room. He said he needed it to walk on because the carpet was full of bugs (for the record there are NO bugs in my carpet . . . just a game). Seeing as how I'm a stellar mom, I let him.
Just to ensure that I kept my status as a stellar mom, I didn't make him pick it up last night. And this morning while he was playing (ummm . . . running through the house . . . I didn't okay that one by the way), he slipped on the books and fell into the corner of the piano bench splitting his cheek just below his right eye.
So it was off to the pediatrician's office for us. He only needed one stitch, but based on the level of screaming, you'd have thought it was ten. Any child that heard him screaming is most likely petrified to go into one of those little rooms now. We're favorites at the pediatrician's office. ;)
Since he was incredibly traumatized by the whole experience I took him to Target and let him get a toy. Did I make him pick something that would encourage quiet play while he rested and sat calmly? Heck no! He got the Hulk which encourages him to play roughly and wildly.
I'll now relinquish my title as "Mom of the Year".
We've had some emergencies before but this was the first injury of this sort. And while I'm not thankful it happened, I am thankful for a few (well, more like four) things:
(1) He missed his eye by less than an inch. The doc said had he hit his eye he would've done serious damage. So very thankful for that.
(2) He did only need one stitch. It was pretty deep but it wasn't long. The stitch only has to stay in until Saturday. And he'll have a heck of a shiner which makes for awesome bragging at school.
(3) Speaking of school . . . he can go tomorrow with no restrictions. Hallelujah!
(4) Our pediatrician's office was open, and they had me come there rather than go to the ER. We were in and out in 30 minutes, and as always the doctors there are awesome.
When we were finished Andrew looked and me and said, "I guess it could have been much worser."
Couldn't of said it better myself Buddy. :)
